Rain

Droplets race on a child's window

And are flung off the windshield ahead.

Falling in a stream, they disturb a minnow

And hit a stranded fish, mixing with the red.

A worm hears the rain and buries his head,

While the grass above drinks the meal.

Fur taints it when off a fox it was shed,

It mixes with dirt under a human heel.

He hits one knee and hears her squeal,

They wander home as it wets her hair.

A girl watches with an umbrella, wishing for the unreal.

A soaked man reaches out, asking for her to spare.

Sonder can sometimes overtake us all,

With rain we realize that our worlds are small.
